Does a new bathroom need building regulations approval?
Sometimes. GOV.UK lists installing a bathroom that will involve plumbing, and changing electrics near a bath or shower, among the alteration work that may need building regulations approval. The homeowner does not need to get approval themselves if the work is done by someone registered with a competent person scheme, and GOV.UK advises checking with a building control body when unsure (GOV.UK, building regulations approval, checked October 2026). Your website should say who handles this on your jobs: whether your electrician is registered with a scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT, both on the government’s list of competent person schemes, and who issues the certificate.
What bathroom electrical work is notifiable?
Any addition or alteration to circuits within 0.6 metres of the edge of the bath or shower tray, up to a height of 2.25 metres (or the shower head, if higher), plus any new circuit or replacement consumer unit. Where there is no tray, the zone runs 1.2 metres from the centre of the shower head. Approved Document P also notes that socket outlets should not be within 3 metres of a bath or shower tray (Approved Document P, 2013 edition, checked October 2026). New lighting, a shaver point or a new electric shower circuit will often fall inside it, so a sentence on your site explaining how you certify it heads off the question.
What size extractor fan does a bathroom need?
15 litres per second for an intermittent extract fan, and 6 litres per second for a room with only a toilet, under Table 1.1 of Approved Document F, Volume 1 (2021 edition, in force; the 2026 edition taking effect on 24 March 2027 keeps the same figures; checked October 2026). Name the fans you fit and their rated extract on your site. It shows you know why a cheap fan leads to mould, and it gives search engines a precise answer to a common question.
What guarantee should a bathroom fitter offer?
At least 2 years if you are TrustMark registered: KBSA’s TrustMark page states that TrustMark Registered Businesses provide a minimum two-year guarantee covering workmanship and product warranties (KBSA on TrustMark, checked October 2026). Whatever your guarantee is, state it in years on the homepage and every service page. “Fully guaranteed” with no number is the phrase customers trust least.
What should a bathroom fitter’s website include?
- Before and after pairs. Same angle, same light, ideally the same tile line, so the change is obvious at a glance.
- Separate pages for wet rooms and accessible bathrooms. They are searched for on their own and often involve different buyers, including families arranging work for an older relative.
- How you waterproof. A line on tanking and the system you use matters more to a wet room buyer than any adjective.
- A clear start-to-finish timeline in your own honest numbers, and how long the household will be without a working bathroom.
