Website Design for Cleaning Companies

£495 fixed for a cleaning business website of up to 5 pages, typically live in about 7 days; online booking with deposits sits in the £1,495 Business build.

£495 fixed is what a cleaning business website costs with us: up to 5 pages, normally live in about 7 days, or $625 for cleaning companies in the US. If you want customers to book and pay a deposit online, that sits in our £1,495 Business build, which adds Stripe payments and room for up to 15 pages. Below, the questions cleaners actually search, answered with rules checked on GOV.UK and HSE.

Last updated October 2026. DBS, insurance and waste carrier figures checked on GOV.UK and HSE in October 2026.

Should a cleaner use a website builder or hire a designer?

A builder is cheaper in cash if you have the evenings to set it up yourself. Squarespace’s Basic plan is £12 a month paid annually, and Hostinger’s cheapest plan works out at £2.99 a month, but only when you pay for 48 months upfront and before VAT. Both figures come from our UK website builder price comparison, taken from each builder’s own pricing page on 4 October 2026. Check the plan level before you sign up: Wix’s entry Light plan ($17 a month, billed yearly) does not list payments, and Core at $29 is the first Wix plan to add scheduling, which is usually the feature a cleaning firm is after.

Hire a designer when the site has to win contracts rather than simply exist. A commercial cleaner pitching to offices, schools or holiday let owners is judged on how professional the site looks beside two rival quotes, and a template that thousands of other cleaners also picked does nothing for that. Our builder vs designer guide covers when we would tell you to stay on a builder.

What is the best website for a cleaning company?

The one that gets a homeowner from “how much?” to a quote request in under a minute on a phone. In practice that means:

  • A price guide instead of “call for prices”. An hourly rate, or from-prices for deep cleans, end of tenancy and oven cleans. Customers skip cleaners who hide it.
  • Separate domestic and commercial pages. A family wanting a fortnightly clean and a facilities manager tendering for an office contract are different buyers reading for different things.
  • A quote form that asks the right questions: bedrooms, bathrooms, how often, pets, and whether someone will be home or you need a key.
  • Areas covered by postcode, so you stop quoting jobs too far away.
  • Proof you can be trusted with a key: vetting, insurance and reviews near the top of the page, covered below.

Can customers book a cleaner online through my website?

Yes. On our Starter site that is a quote request form that lands straight in your inbox. If you would rather take a deposit or the first clean’s payment upfront, which cuts no-shows on one-off jobs, the Business site includes Stripe payments. Holiday let changeover cleaners can keep the booking calendar they already use; we embed it.

Is a DBS check worth showing on a cleaning website?

Yes, if you have one. A basic DBS check costs £20, anyone aged 16 or over can apply for their own, and GOV.UK says processing usually takes up to 3 days before the paper certificate is posted (GOV.UK basic DBS check, checked October 2026). For a sole trader holding customers’ keys, “basic DBS checked, certificate on request” answers the question most people are too polite to ask. Don’t upload the certificate itself, as it carries your personal details. If you run a team, say whether every cleaner is checked, not only the owner.

What insurance should a cleaning company mention on its website?

Public liability, if you hold it, even though the law doesn’t make you buy it. HSE describes public liability insurance as generally voluntary, while employers’ liability is compulsory (HSE leaflet HSE39, checked October 2026). Commercial clients usually ask to see a policy, so state your cover level on that page.

Employers’ liability works differently. GOV.UK says you need it as soon as you become an employer, covering at least £5 million, with fines of £2,500 for every day you are not properly insured and £1,000 for failing to display the certificate (GOV.UK employers’ liability insurance, checked October 2026). Employing only family members is one of the listed exceptions. Watch the subcontractor trap too: HSE notes that someone self-employed for tax can still count as an employee for employers’ liability, which matters if your “meet the team” page shows cleaners who work only for you.

Do I need a waste carrier licence if I take rubbish away?

In England, yes, once you transport waste as part of the business. GOV.UK’s waste carrier page says registration costs £191.02, is usually free if you only transport waste you produce yourself, and that not registering can mean an unlimited fine (GOV.UK waste carrier registration, checked October 2026). Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own processes. If your end of tenancy page promises to clear what the last tenant left, register first or reword it.

How do cleaners get found by people nearby?

Most searches for a cleaner end in the map results, so your Google Business Profile and your website should carry the same business name, phone number and service area. Give each type of clean its own page, and ask clients to name the job in reviews: “weekly clean, three-bed with two dogs” says more than five stars. Our local SEO guide has the full checklist. Cleaning in the US? Same build, $625, but the DBS, insurance and waste rules above are UK rules, so your trust section would carry what your clients ask for instead.

Is a website builder cheaper than a designer for a cleaning company?

Yes, in cash. Squarespace Basic is £12 a month on annual billing (checked 4 October 2026), so £432 over three years. The cost is your own time building it, and a template plenty of other cleaners are also using.

£20 on GOV.UK, checked October 2026. Anyone 16 or over can apply for their own, and processing usually takes up to 3 days before the paper certificate is posted out.

Does a cleaning business legally need public liability insurance?

No. HSE describes public liability cover as generally voluntary. Employers' liability is compulsory once you employ staff, for at least £5 million, and GOV.UK puts the fine at £2,500 for each day without it.

Do cleaners need to register as a waste carrier?

Yes, in England, if you transport waste as part of the job, such as clearing items after an end of tenancy clean. GOV.UK lists registration at £191.02, usually free if you only carry waste you produce yourself.
