How much does web design cost in Manchester?
£495 for a Starter site, £1,495 for a Business site and from £3,995 for e-commerce or bespoke work, fixed before we start. Manchester has a genuine agency scene now, and with it a genuine agency price list. Plenty of studios around Spinningfields and the Northern Quarter quote four and five figures for a small business site because that is what the market will bear, not what the build costs.
If you need a full brand programme with a team on site, a big Manchester agency is the right call. If you need a site that loads quickly and turns local searches into phone calls, you should not be paying MediaCity rates for it.
How many businesses are there in Greater Manchester?
108,685 VAT or PAYE registered enterprises across the ten boroughs in 2026, and 77.4% of them sit outside Manchester City Council’s own area. That is the figure most Manchester sites ignore: Manchester itself holds 24,550 of them, so roughly three in four of your potential competitors, and your customers, are in Stockport, Trafford, Bolton and the other seven boroughs. 88.5% are micro businesses with fewer than ten staff, close to the England figure of 89.2%.
| Borough | Enterprises | Micro (0 to 9 staff) | Micro share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manchester | 24,550 | 21,440 | 87.3% |
| Stockport | 12,470 | 11,140 | 89.3% |
| Trafford | 11,780 | 10,365 | 88.0% |
| Bolton | 10,880 | 9,710 | 89.2% |
| Salford | 10,395 | 9,190 | 88.4% |
| Wigan | 9,265 | 8,180 | 88.3% |
| Bury | 7,880 | 7,145 | 90.7% |
| Oldham | 7,745 | 6,845 | 88.4% |
| Rochdale | 7,215 | 6,415 | 88.9% |
| Tameside | 6,505 | 5,785 | 88.9% |
| Greater Manchester | 108,685 | 96,215 | 88.5% |

Is it better to target my borough than “Manchester”?
Yes, for most local service businesses. “Plumber Stockport” is a fight you can win. “Plumber Manchester” mostly is not, and it is not where most of your customers are searching anyway. Each part of the county behaves differently:
- City centre and Salford, media, tech, professional services and hospitality, where design quality is assumed and being slow or generic is what kills you.
- Stockport, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan, established local trade and service markets with their own search demand.
- Trafford and Altrincham, higher-spend domestic work: extensions, kitchens, clinics, private practices. Trust signals do the selling.
- Tameside and the eastern edge, strong trades and independents, and far less competition online than the centre.
If you cover four boroughs, the site should name those four on pages Google can actually read, rather than a single line saying “we cover Greater Manchester”. Our guide to local SEO for UK businesses explains how the local map pack picks winners, and every site we build is mobile-first because that is where these searches happen.
Can my Google Business Profile cover all ten Greater Manchester boroughs?
Yes. Google lets a service-area business list up to 20 service areas, so all ten boroughs fit with ten slots spare for the towns people actually type, such as Altrincham, Didsbury, Sale or Prestwich. Google also asks that the whole area stays within about two hours’ drive of your base, which the county does comfortably from anywhere inside it, and says edits can take up to 48 hours to show. The detail is on Google’s service area help page. Pick the same places your website names, so the profile and the site tell Google the same story.
What kinds of Manchester business do you build for?
Five, mostly:
- Trades and construction, builders, electricians, plumbers, roofers and joiners, built for borough-level “near me” searches and one-tap calling. See websites for tradespeople.
- Clinics and practices, dental, aesthetics, physio and private healthcare across Didsbury, Altrincham and the city centre. See dental and medical websites.
- Hospitality and independents, bars, restaurants and shops in the Northern Quarter, Ancoats and Chorlton, where bookings and local search do the work.
- Professional services, accountants, solicitors and consultancies that need to look established immediately. See websites for accountants.
- E-commerce, Stripe-integrated stores, subscriptions and digital products.
Can I see your work before I commit?
Yes. We keep ten fully built demo sites live so you can click round one for your industry and decide for yourself. You can also look at platforms we built and run ourselves, which tells you more than a screenshot ever will.
Is it worth paying more for a web designer with a Manchester office?
No, not for the website itself. Our prices are the same whether you trade in Salford, Stockport or Settle: £495 for Starter, £1,495 for Business and from £3,995 for Premium, fixed before we start. What a city-centre office buys you is face-to-face meetings, and some businesses value that enough to pay for it. Most of our Greater Manchester clients find a shared screen and a straight answer by email does the same job. Either way, ask any designer you talk to for a written fixed price, who owns the site at the end, and what happens after launch.
What does each fixed-price package include?
3 packages, each priced before any work starts:
| Package | Price | Pages | Typical time | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
