£19 a month for Shopify’s Basic plan in the UK when you pay yearly, or £25 paying monthly, but for a shop the subscription is rarely the biggest cost. Card processing starts at 2% + 25p on every online sale, and anyone not using Shopify Payments pays a further 2% on Basic. Those figures come from Shopify’s UK pricing page, read on 22 October 2026.
How much does Shopify cost per month in the UK?
Three main plans, plus Plus for large businesses:
| Plan | Paid yearly, a month | Paid monthly | Online card rate from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | £19 | £25 | 2% + 25p |
| Grow | £49 | £65 | 1.7% + 25p |
| Advanced | £259 | £344 | 1.5% + 25p |
| Plus | From £1,800 a month | 1.3% + 25p | |
Grow allows up to 5 staff accounts, Advanced up to 15 and Plus unlimited. New stores were offered 3 days free and then £1 a month for 3 months. Shopify’s page did not say whether these prices include VAT.
What are Shopify’s transaction fees in the UK?
With Shopify Payments on Basic, online card payments cost 2% + 25p, American Express and international cards 3.1% + 25p, and in-person card payments 1.7%. If you use a third-party payment provider instead, Shopify adds a 2% transaction fee on Basic on top of whatever that provider charges. Klarna is listed at 4.99% + 30p.
How much does Shopify really cost for a small shop?
More than the subscription, as soon as you sell. A worked example on Basic paid yearly, with Shopify Payments and 100 orders a month at £40 each:
| Cost | A month |
|---|---|
| Basic subscription | £19.00 |
| Card fees, 2% + 25p on £4,000 across 100 orders | £105.00 |
| Total | £124.00 |
The card fees are more than five times the subscription. That is normal for any shop platform, and it is why the right question is not “which plan is cheapest” but “which plan’s card rate suits my sales”.
When is Shopify Grow worth it over Basic?
When the card-rate saving covers the £30 a month difference on yearly billing. Grow cuts the online rate from 2% to 1.7%, a 0.3 percentage point saving, so the break-even is £10,000 a month in online card sales. Below that, Basic is cheaper; above it, Grow pays for itself. Extra staff accounts are the other reason to move up.
Does Shopify charge for apps and themes?
Many apps and premium themes cost extra and are not part of the plan price. A store that relies on several paid apps can add as much again as the subscription. Count them before you commit.
How much does a Shopify store cost over three years?
£684 in Basic subscriptions paid yearly, before card fees, apps or a theme. For any shop that sells, card fees will be the larger figure.
Is Shopify good for a small UK business?
For selling products online, it is one of the strongest options, with a very good checkout and a large app ecosystem. It is overkill for a business that does not sell online: a trade, a practice or a service business needs a site that gets enquiries, not a shop platform charging per sale.
Can I move my store off Shopify?
You can export your products, customers and orders, but not the store as a working site; the design has to be rebuilt elsewhere. Your domain can be transferred.
How does Shopify compare with a custom online shop?
Our online shop builds start from £3,995, with no VAT added, and are quoted for your project before we start. Whether that beats Shopify depends almost entirely on how much you sell and how the platform fees compare with a custom build’s payment costs over time, so we would run the numbers with you rather than claim either is always cheaper. Shopify’s subscription is lower on day one. Our website cost calculator covers shop builds too.
Prices read from Shopify’s own UK pricing page on 22 October 2026. Check before you buy; Shopify changes plan names and prices from time to time.
